San Diego DA Accused of Filing Bogus Charges Against Chula Vista Councilmember

Alleged Conspiracy Includes Developer Jim Pieri and the Lincoln Club of San Diego County

A conspiracy involving San Diego District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, former Chula Vista Councilmember John Moot and others was alleged in a letter delivered on behalf of the so-called Chula Vista Better Government Association by community activist Sonny Chandler to the city’s council meeting on Dec. 18, 2007. Apparently an identical letter was sent to the State Attorney General and to the U.S. Attorney on Dec. 7, 2007 demanding an investigation into corruption and an alleged conflict of interests.

The letter seems to allege:
  • That local land developer Jim Pieri contributed $15,050 to the Lincoln Club of San Diego County which then passed on $51,000 to the campaign for the election of Chula Vista mayor Cheryl Cox, who is the fragrant wife of San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox, himself a former mayor of Chula Vista.

  • That the lesbian DA leases her Chula Vista office accommodation from Pieri at a rent of $71,328 per month. The blog of a local realtor makes the comment, “That’s a pretty nice lease,” possibly insinuating that this is lower than the going rate.

  • That the DA filed bogus charges against Chula Vista City Councilmember Steve Castaneda because Castaneda was less likely to approve Pieri’s high rise projects. And Castenada has a thing or two to say about Pieri.

  • That John Moot is somehow involved in this. Good grief!
The letter complains that the San Diego Union-Tribune has chosen not to report the allegations.

Full documentation is available on Pat Flannery’s blog in the form of a 318-page PDF document.

Residents who would like the concerns of the Chula Vista Better Government Association to be reported in the tired old San Diego Union-Tribune are urged to raise the matter with Carol Goodhue, Readers Representative, Box 120191, San Diego, CA 92112-0191, or to telephone her at (619) 293-1525. They can e-mail her at readers.rep@uniontrib.com.

The Lincoln Club of San Diego County is one of the Republican Party’s political action committees. Its endorsement is regarded by some candidates as the kiss of death because so many conservatives confuse it with the Log Cabin Conservatives, a gay organization. Maybe some dyslexic Republican supporters are thinking of Linkin’ Logs.
